If you’ve spent the last few weeks high up in the mountains – like me – you may have completely failed to notice that today is Valentine’s day. For others, deep within the throngs of commercial advertising, such an omission would be impossible to even imagine.
But today is actually something more. Today is V-day. One billion Rising. A global opportunity to take a massive stand to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
A movement that arises not from a spirit of trauma and violence. But from its exact opposite. From a spirit of deep love and compassion.
One in three women across the world will be raped or beaten in her lifetime, according to UN Statistics. As incredible as this statistic may seem, when women all around the world start sharing their stories with you, you quickly understand that this is unfortunately real.
How is that even possible? How can we continue to allow this to happen to our daughters and sisters across the planet?
So let us rise. Let us dance. Let us drum and use the primordial language of rhythm to change our collective consciousness. Let us pave the way for a new era where such a thing could not even be imaginable.
Today, starting at 12pm GMT, women and men will gather in hundreds of cities and villages around the world to drum and dance together.
Will you join us?
